Weddings

The end of a nuptial Mass tends to be a bit of a whirlwind. It’s in those first moments following Mass, while the recessional hymn is still lingering in the air, that the reality of what has just happened begins to sink in. After all of that waiting and preparation, it is finished. The bride and groom are now husband and wife!

In those moments, there is a surge of emotion, unlike any other part of the day. The bride and groom often embrace their loved ones and enjoy the bliss of celebratory hugs. After Katie and Colby had processed down the aisle, we were getting ready to walk to where they were to capture those precious moments, but something else caught our eyes first. Their parents, Joan, Stirling, Leslie, and Michael, were all processing down the aisle together, arm in arm. So much joy was radiating off of them! Their decision to exit together illustrated the beautiful truth that they entered the church with their own children and left as one family.

Ever since they were high school sweethearts, Katie and Colby have been a part of each other’s lives. They’ve been involved in each other’s families for just as long. During his toast, Katie’s dad reflected on the night that Colby had Googled “how to win Clue” and demolished their family at the game. Colby’s mom talked about what a joy it had always been to have Katie around. Katie’s mom asked if Caroline—Katie’s younger sister and junior maid of honor—could hold Colby’s hand in their picture together because it was a fitting pose to show the love she has for Colby. Reflecting back on their four parents walking down the aisle together, it makes perfect sense why they made that choice. They already considered each other to be family; Katie and Colby’s marriage just made it official.

Katie and Colby, what a beautiful wedding day you had! Do you know that feeling you’re left with when you read a great book or watch an awesome movie and you just don’t want it to end? That’s the best way to describe how your wedding day felt! There was so much joy being shared by everyone in attendance, and it was contagious! There is no doubt that you are both deeply loved by your family and your friends, and you surround yourselves with such wonderful people! We are so excited to see where God takes you next on this journey. You’ll continue to be in our family’s prayers.

Love,

Amy and Kyle
