Leading up to each wedding day, we have a final call with our couples to discuss all the details of their wedding day and build their timeline. After our call with Lulu and Jonathan, we received an email from Jonathan. There was one other detail that would need to be photographed, but it was a surprise for Lulu, so Jonathan couldn’t bring it up during the call. With excitement, he described his gift to us: a statue of Our Lady of Charity, the patroness of Cuba. With Lulu’s family being Cuban, they have a special devotion to her. Jonathan was clearly (and understandably) excited to gift this statue to Lulu for their new home.
On the day of their wedding, before they were introduced at the reception, Jonathan waved us down. It was time for him to give Lulu her present. We gathered with Lulu and Jonathan’s parents in a side room. Before she opened the gift, Jonathan told Lulu that he had bought this gift two years ago. Her face glowed with joy. “You’ve known that I was the one for that long?” Jonathan nodded. Not only did he think she would be the one, but he acted upon that thought by purchasing this statue. Though Lulu smiled from ear to ear when her eyes fell upon the statue and her dad told us all the story behind her patronage in Cuba, we couldn’t help but think that this statue was just the second gift given, right behind the gift of Jonathan telling her how long he had known that she was the one.
