The tent was abuzz with conversation. People were talking about how beautiful the Mass was and how happy they were for Emily and Brock. We also found ourselves lost in conversation with an old friend, Br. Mike, when Brock came to let us know that he and Emily were about to make their rounds of all the tables. But first, Br. Mike and Brock reflected on a conversation they shared a while back, before Brock proposed to Emily.
Surrounded by the beauty of the wedding day, and seeing all of the support shown by family and friends, it was hard to imagine Brock in the place Br. Mike spoke of. He was in love with Emily and was trying to navigate through the cultural expectations of the day to marry later in life. Could he do something so counter-cultural as marrying his high school sweetheart just months after turning 21, or should he wait a few years? Looking around the picnic grounds and seeing everyone celebrating Emily and Brock’s marriage, the answer was obvious: he made the right decision. But back when he was in the midst of discerning, it required a great deal of trust in the Lord to make that leap.
Emily and Brock, we’ve rarely heard so much conversation during a reception regarding the beauty of the wedding Mass, though all of our couples have lovely Masses. Something about your day was so unique and special, and your friends and family were treated to such an incredible, reverent celebration that was just perfect for you two. You are both so beautiful, and your willingness to selflessly enter into your vocation, with the Lord at the center, is an inspiration to all of us, as we are reminded of how much joy and beauty comes from following the Lord’s will. We wish you all the best in your marriage, and we pray that your family always keeps the Lord right in the center.
Love,
Amy and Kyle
