Mr. and Mrs. Sardegna

The dinner hall radiated a soft, golden light. Friends and family worked alongside the bride and groom for about a week to transform the space. Soft, white drapery adorning the walls added to the feel of dreamy romance that accompanies a wedding day. The savory smells of homemade cooking and Nini’s lasagna drifted in from the kitchen. The candles from the lantern centerpieces bounced their light on the dinner guests. The chairs were filled by close family members and friends, all of whom were looking up at Marybeth and Joseph as they finished their first dance as husband and wife.

Joseph then turned to his new bride, Marybeth, and told her, “As my first act as your husband, I’d like to do my first act of service and wash your feet.” Thomas and Vicki, the best man and maid of honor, brought out a large bowl and a pitcher of water. Joseph invited his wife to sit down in a chair as he knelt to wash her feet. Their friends and family watched—both those in the room and those viewing the livestream—as Joseph demonstrated his heart of service and showed us what the love between husband and wife can look like.

Marybeth and Joseph, congratulations on your new marriage! You are blessed with so many family members and friends who love you and support you. Their example and prayers will be so valuable as your marriage continues to grow. Thank you for showing us your selfless love for one another! It will not always be easy to choose selflessness in marriage, but it will always be worth it.
