Think of a delicious cake. Can you pinpoint a single trait that makes it enjoyable? That’s a hard task since so much goes into a perfect slice: it should be perfectly baked with a delicate crumb, have a balanced flavor, and provide just the right amount of frosting. No single aspect overpowers the others, but each individual element works with and builds off the others. With all of these elements present, the recipient of this slice is free to enjoy and enter into the pleasure of eating a delicious cake!

Yes, we’re talking about cake, but we’re trying to find a relatable language and an experience to describe Meg and Nick’s wedding day. It was truly like a perfect bite of cake! They were both calm and joyful throughout the day and so were their family and friends who surrounded them. Everyone shared the same understanding of what was truly important that day. Their love for Christ was evident and we heard during the toasts about how they’ve each helped the other to know Christ more deeply. Everything was wrapped in a stillness that felt like eternity touching earth. It will be a blessing for all of us to see what happens with this new family that Meg and Nick have now started together.

Meg and Nick, your love for Christ and for each other is such a wonderful example encouraging all of us to be better. You make me think of these words from Jesus’ sermon on the mount in Matthew: “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house.” Thank you for living virtuously and generously, shining a light in a darkened world that is seeking light and truth. Keep growing in virtue and encouraging one another to become great saints. We’ll continue to pray for you!
