On the morning of most wedding days, the mother of the bride has the honor of helping her daughter into her wedding dress. Once the bride’s transformation is complete, the day begins to feel different for everyone. Julie helped her daughter, Miriam, into her dress on Saturday morning and beheld an image of herself from her own wedding day. Miriam had decided to wear Julie’s wedding dress and veil, and the connection between daughter and mother was beautiful to witness.
We considered what else—like Julie’s wedding dress and veil—Miriam and Rob had brought to their wedding day from their family and friends. Darien and Clare, the best man and maid of honor, mentioned in their toasts how Miriam and Rob came to the fullness of the Catholic Church with help from their friends. Getting to spend the day with these family and friends left us joyful and smiling because of their desire for deep conversation and connection. Their guests solved riddles, wrote poems that were performed during the reception, and sang along with Miriam and Rob to some of their favorite songs. The day was filled with great joy and was so fun!
Miriam and Rob, you approached the altar adorned with so many traits inherited from family and friends—from your Catholic faith to your unique taste in music. This is a beautiful example of what it means to be a member of the body of Christ. We should give and take with others who are striving for excellence and virtues. As Proverbs 27:17 says, “Iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens the wits of another.” Iron sharpens iron, not because it has nothing else to do, but because it is strong and able to complete the job. Christians inspire and sharpen the wits of other Christians, not because they have nothing else to do, but because they’re able to complete the job well. We thank God for Christian friends like you from whom we can learn so much! We’ll continue to pray for you and your new family!
Love,
Amy and Kyle
