We were introduced to the song Tuesdays by Jake Scott when one of our couples, Christine and Norm, chose it for their first dance. There is a beautiful message to it: love isn’t just the best or worst moments or days, but instead is found in the ordinary days, aka “the Tuesdays.” So much of what we do on a daily basis is a bit mundane. Our marriages are mostly lived out in ordinary ways. Marriage is not always thrilling, and often one spouse is doing something they aren’t too enthusiastic about in order to serve the other. Seeing how an engaged couple lives their ordinary lives now can give you a good peek into what their everyday life as a married couple might look like.
For Becca and Kyle’s engagement session, we met at the Seton Shrine here in Emmitsburg. It’s one of our favorite locations at which to shoot. Both Kyle and Becca were excited about the session, and we had a great time together capturing their photos. Before the session, they had told us that they would be attending a funeral the next day, but it wasn’t until their session that we learned the funeral was for Kyle’s grandfather. He was a faithful man and husband, and a father to twelve children. Seeing Becca and Kyle here at their shoot so peaceful and calm, and now knowing that they were preparing to attend a funeral the next day to grieve Kyle’s grandfather, we were impressed by their calm and present demeanors. In marriage, we’re often carrying a large range of emotions and bouncing from event to event, wearing different hats. To become saints, we need to learn to do all of this with an inner peace and stillness, and this is something Becca and Kyle already seem capable of.
Becca and Kyle, you are wonderfully formed, virtuous individuals, and it’s a great blessing that you’ve found one another. There is so much more to know about both of you than what we’ve observed in our short time together, but from what we have seen, you are off to a great start and seem well prepared for marriage. In you, we see an ability to be present and joyful. Even when your gallery was delayed, you were flexible and able to just roll with the punches. This ability to live virtuously is setting you up for a happy life—and you’re likely already living quite happily! We’re so excited to celebrate your marriage and see where God brings you next. You are in our prayers.
In Christ,
Amy and Kyle
