Claire and Matt

engagements

When we meet a new couple during a consultation call, we like to hear about their vision for their wedding. Learning about how they envision their wedding day tells us a lot about them, and it helps us to discern if we’re a good fit to work as their photographers, or if perhaps the job would better suit another. During engagement sessions, we enjoy learning about each bride’s engagement ring. The story behind the ring often tells us something more about the couple and their relationship than we already knew.

At Claire and Matt’s engagement session, we asked Claire about her beautiful ring. She recalled how she told Matt which diamond shape she liked, and trusted him with the rest. (He did a great job with “the rest,” by the way!) This act of sharing in a decision is symbolic of what happens all the time in marriage. We reveal a little here, or a lot there, and our spouse—with the help of God—fills in everything else. Marriage is teamwork, but it’s unlike any teamwork we’ve participated in before. In marriage, we trust our spouses with big responsibilities and decisions. From the story shared by Claire and Matt about her ring, it’s clear there is already a foundation of trust laid out!

Claire and Matt, the countdown to your wedding is running out! You’ve spent both your lifetimes preparing for the vocation you’ll enter into soon. Your courtship and engagement have taught you a lot, and they have prepared you to live out a holy marriage, but your marriage will continue to prepare you for sainthood. Marriage in and of itself will not magically do this. You have to live out your marriage well. The example of Claire’s ring above is symbolic of the partnership, trust, and surrender that a good marriage requires. Trust one another, and anticipate one another’s needs. These habits will pave your way to Heaven. We’re excited to celebrate your wedding with you!

In Christ,

Amy and Kyle
