We all have expectations for how various events in our lives will turn out. It’s both understandable and acceptable to have them. Christina and Adam surely had an idea of what their engagement photos would look like. It’s not very likely that they hoped for or envisioned rain for their session, but that’s what they got! Their session started with bright, sunny skies, and it ended with us all soaked head to toe from a determined storm. Their photos are some of our favorites we’ve ever captured, but not because of the rain. Their positive and joyful attitudes made their photos turn out as well as they did.
The weather can teach us a thing or two about relationships and how they change. For one, bright skies are never guaranteed to last. Grey skies and rain can move in, but that doesn’t mean that life’s storms have to stop the fun. Second, we can maintain a bright demeanour in rough conditions. Our external circumstances do not dictate our response, nor do they control our demeanour. Also, we shouldn’t let our fear of unfavourable circumstances deprive us of exciting opportunities. Amy didn’t want to shoot their engagement photos that day once she saw the forecast, but if we had let her dislike of shooting in the rain cancel the shoot, we would have never captured these gorgeous images for them (in both the glow of the sunset and the downpouring rain)!
Christina and Adam, we had the best time working with you in the rain. You’ll have plenty of storm clouds that find you throughout your marriage, and tackle them with joy each time they draw near. Although we can’t control everything, we can control our attitude (to some extent!), so keep on with your positivity! We’re so excited to celebrate your wedding day with you. Until then, we’ll be praying!
In Christ,
Amy and Kyle
